Tech Airport
Subject description: RA2
So let's introduce the second most pivotal Tech structure in Red Alert history!
The Tech Airport replaces the Tiberium Wars Mutant Hovel. This means that in official maps, each player will have the opportunity to capture a Tech Airport (there was always at least one Mutant Hovel per player).
So important question you have is: will I be able to drop GI's behind enemy lines? the answer is no. First off, there are no GI's in the mod, but more significantly, there is no way that I can find to parachute in squads of infantry (the code does not exist in C&C3).
Instead a player that captures a Tech Airport will be able to paradrop scout vehicles, which can then be used to harass the enemy!
Allies
The Allies get to paradrop in a number of JEEP's. While these JEEP's are armed with a remote weapon station armed with a gun, they can be upgraded to swap the gun for a rocket launcher, giving you extra flexibility.
Soviets
The Soviets paradrop in Mortar cycles (seen in the RA3 units thread). As the name suggest, these units are armed with mortars, which make them a more immediate threat to a wider range of targets, which is why less units are dropped compared to the Alllies.
Both
Both sides get access to a para-bomb support power, although this has a long wait before it is ready. Currently it is free, although the option to add a cost for usage is definitely a consideration, it depends how testing goes.
Overall
Since this tech building can be captured in the earliest part of the game, despite the weak units that it drops, it still makes a difference. Since your opponent will almost certainly have their own Tech Airport to capture, you are kind of obligated to either capture one yourself, or destroy your opponents (or both).
If you can hold on to the structure into the middle section of a match, the para-bombs can make a significant difference!
And finally, the Tech Airport will repair all of your aircraft (including your P51 or Yaks!) across the map!
So hopefully you have an overview of how important this structure can be.
