Your best bet is probably copying the coding for transforming vehicles (more precisely the MCV), and have it spawn Slaves for free in Building Mode - not sure how to limit it to 5 Slaves per Miner, though. Maybe there is coding for disposable drones? GZH had that.

Is it possible you also need to keep track of your slaves while you transform back and forth
