The Spawn is one of many grotesque products of Chimera bioengineering. It appears as an unassuming mass of pulsating flesh. Don't ever underestimate it as its surprisingly fast and attacks by spitting a deadly chemical agent designed to deteriorate organic material quickly. Its otherwise harmless against inorganic objects like vehicles, structures and certain kinds of infantry. Autopsy of captured specimens revealed that these things are not living bioweapons as initially assumed. Instead, they're actually small robotic probes with fleshy poisonous exteriors. These probes are equipped with mini psychic sensors to detect imposters with and fail-safes which causes them to detonate their bodies, contaminating a small area with the chemical agent, its potency is enough to actually corrode inorganic material. This usually happens when they're at critical damage to escape capture. In a nutshell, Spawns are basically the Chimera's twisted version of Attack Dogs, one that can operate in harsh environments. No doubt that they also created these freaks of nature just to gross their enemies out...
