24-bit Pallete?

Is there a way to change 8-bit pallete that the game reads on cameo to 24-bit pallete for a higher and smoother details?

You can use PCX cameos with Ares which is the closest to that. (use 255,0,255 pink for transparency).

I don't have Ares. I don't know which is better, Ares or NPatch. I'm looking for add on that gives more features and customize.

There is only one palette (cameo.pal) and you can modify it to replace colors with others. But you can't change the palette from 256 colors to 16.777.216 colors

Ares is more stable than NPatch and is still being worked on, but doesn't have save game functionality or some of NPatch's unique features. I'd recommend Ares simply from the fact you won't get random crashes and it has plenty of unique features of its own. I'm also assuming you can live without saving games.

It allows pcx cameos, only of 256 colors but they are unique to the cameo so you get a better selection of colors, and more custom palettes like the one the Statue of Liberty uses so you can have a better palette for units if you want, although it was stated in the documentation that this could be to mask an underlying bug with the original game.

Most likely it was limited in original for reasons of memory use as back then had far less RAM as every custom pal increases obviously memory use, not that various shps and voxels additions don't Very Happy
