Universe At War at $10 on Steam!!!
Subject description: Only for a limited time!!!
I'll tell you some of the good things of the game and the engine:
- The storytelling is a lot better than, let's say, C&C3.
- The game has lots of FMVs to tell you the story
- The music is incredibily good, of course made by the C&C music master himself, Frank Klepacki. And it resembles a lot the music style of the C&Cs.
- The HUD, despite it includes a bottom bar, lets you build units from anywhere on the map and from various factories at the time.
- Every faction has radically different ways to build their base. One of the facitons, the Hierarchy, has a crawler system.
- The engine is really fast, although it hasn't the best graphics, it looks pretty good and realistic in terms of complexity and proportions - a lot more realistic proportions than SAGE - that immerses you a lot.
I think this engine has a lot of potential to make C&C mods.
For those of you who don't know anything about UAW, it's a science-fiction RTS game made by Petroglyph, a game studio formed by former Westwood developers.
Grab the game NOW, as the offer ends at September 27th!!!
Maybe... though I remember being majorly confused when I tried to play this and gave up. Perhaps it deserves another chance, though, from what I remember of the media coverage it wasn't ground breaking, kind of wish the ex WW team did a more polished job of a come back. _________________ QUICK_EDIT

My ass it is. At least the reason the Scrin arrive for wasn't told until mid-way of the campaign, unlike the Masari which were revealed at the game trailers. Not to mention capturing Kamal inside his own mind, assuming he'd buy that "We give our godhood to you for lulz" bullcrap, was the lamest thing ever.

What? No it doesn't. The trailer showing Hierarchy killing Americans doesn't really count as lots. The game only has cutscenes that were made using the ingame terrain and unit models.

Tiberium Wars is C&C, and Steve Jablonsky and Trevor Morris did a good job with the athmospheric, though more upbeat music than in, for example, Tiberian Sun. The Arrival is one of my favourites.
Generals and RA3 both had great soundtracks which were divided with upbeat and ambient music for each faction.

You can do that in C&C3 (and RA3 too?) in the sidebar.

The only thing wrong with proportions in SAGE are the infantry, and to some extent aircraft. This is an issue inherited from every previous C&C title, though. _________________
When I mean storytelling is good, I don't mean the story is good, in fact, I think it's not the strongest feature of this game. I mean the way they tell you the story ingame and with the videos.
The videos are not FMV's? Sorry, I didn't know that!!! What I mean is there are lots of videos made with the game engine that tell you the story.
About the music, well, maybe you don't like it and that's your taste, OK, but I think that to most of the C&C fans the music is a lot better than C&C3's music (I don't know about Generals and I don't talk about RA3, that has a great soundtrack). In fact, it resembles a lot tracks from C&C1 and RA2, even some names are almost the same. And this is funny. There's a track that resembles Act on Instinct and it's called Act on Invasion LOL! There're other ones called "Prepare for Oblivion" (very similar to Prepare for Battle) and "Mechanical Brain" (very similar to Mechanical Man LOL). There are also epic songs with beautiful choirs that I don't think they resemble C&C music, but they're also good to listen to.
If someone doesn't want the game but wants some good almost-C&C style music, I reccommend downloading the soundtrack, it's available officially in mp3.
When I talk about the HUD, what I tried to say is that it's not a sidebar but it isn't bad at all.
It used to be available for 5€ in various stores about half a year after its release.
About the game itself, the music is excellent (and it's available as a free download), probably the best game music I've ever heard. In my opinion the graphics also beat C&C3's when both games are run at maximum settings (which can be done even with old GPUs), although it's nothing compared to the beauty of World in Conflict which was released in the same year.
i like the game it can make me fun for while but about engine i reference sage engine over almo engine they use in this and every game they made. since it really unstable specialize the game keep slow down for no reason even i play with ai 1v1. even worst when play in MP. [they're truely westwood they never solve this problem in their game since ra1 ]
3 complete different machanic gameplay on each faction is good but they're too much different and make me end up to play only faction that i like and hate to touch another. [i play only novus becaus his classic gameplay style and i hate blocky masari design and his boring gameplay :p ]. even so i'm really fun to take down giant Habitant walker even i hate to play on that faction.
with those problem that make me can't play this game so long.
i still waiting for END of Nations and sign-up it already just hope almo engine will not dump this game into ground since it's MMO and it look very promise for me. they're great designer but engine ruin the game. QUICK_EDIT

Great music but the game itself was extremely average, and frankly they missed a great opportunity for a human faction. _________________ YR modder/artist, DOOM mapper, aka evanb90

Well, whole game design (in petro's vision) mandated that humans were nothing but like ants in comparison to the three so featuring an faction woulda gone against it and even early missions wise, human weapons do about nothing to those walkers... intentionally so.
Petro just made way too many mistakes with the game, they signed up with sega...bad bad idea and decided also go with microsoft's windows live... in the end it meant it hardly get any patches and even C&C3 got more patches... balance is bad, novus design is too silly and weak, masari as gods are puny with retarded looking chariots that are way too cumbersome, hierarchy are ugly but sure damn big and just can go crush bases to the ground QUICK_EDIT

i think this game is a RTS kind of Resistance, because of the hierarchy, that big monstruosity is like the goliath from that game and you can custom every part of those big robots _________________

I lost my heroes to a couple tanks quite easily when playing as Hierarchy and in that last human mission, had massed and used my military units well enough that I could have won the battle had the Novus cutscene not happened.
The insignificant as ants thing was just a cop out from adding a fourth faction. Which is typical WW/Petroglyph, considering the internal game files suggest they had an entire military faction set up, with abilities, structures and units. _________________ YR modder/artist, DOOM mapper, aka evanb90

Except hard-coded elements make it impossible for the faction to be added. It has to replace a faction IIRC. _________________ YR modder/artist, DOOM mapper, aka evanb90
