The EDF Avenger is rolling death for aircraft and missiles. A hybrid of Russian and American technology, the Avenger is one of the most important multi-national efforts done for the EDF. Its chassis is Russian, based off a heavily modified BTR-92 Armored Personnel Carrier. Infantry stowage was replaced with ammunition stowage and the vehicle's 30mm cannon turret was removed, while the disruption system, meant to break the disguise systems of mirage tanks, was re-modulated to attack stealth technology.
The American company Raytheon contributed the weapons systems for the Avenger- known as the Testudo CIWS. The Testudo CIWS, named after the Roman "Tortoise" defensive formation, is composed of 3 central components. The first is a 20mm 6-barreled autocannon mounted on a rapid-turning turret, designed to defend against ballistic missile threats. The second is a launcher system of Stinger Block III missiles designed to engage and destroy all other aerial threats, such as jets and helicopters, from a long range. The final component is a radar/sensor package that ties the cannon, missile and vehicle together and also provides the Russian disruption system with otherwise undetectable targets to decloak.
The Testudo radar system will not consider ground-based enemies in its target acquisition sequence and prevents wasteful launches against ground units with the Stinger. Because the 20mm autocannon cannot depress low enough to face ground targets, the Avenger is effectively helpless against infantry, tanks and potential land threats. Avenger crews must rely upon their vehicle's sturdy Russian design and respectable mobility to escape attacking ground units.
The Avenger itself inherits its name from a Humvee variant that performed the same duties for the EDF right up until its introduction. Humvee Avengers have since been renamed Humvee Scorpions.
Variants:
