W3D Q&A
Q: What's a W3D?
A: W3D is the model format that CnC Generals and Zero Hour uses to make the engine read the game art models.
Q: Cool! Can i make my own W3D?
A: Yeah! You can use 3ds max 7 or 8 to export to w3d!
Q: But how?
A: You'll need to download the Renegade Public Tools and put the plugin in the right place. You can also use RenX, for gmax, a free version of 3ds max!
A: For textures you can use Photoshop with DDS Plugin. Or you can also use Gimp, a free image edting softwere.
Q: Great! But how can I edit the Generals Textures?
A: You'll need FinalBIG to extract the BIG File nammed Textures.big (at your Generals directory). OS BIG Editor also extracts and saves .BIG files... at least the latest SVN version that is already public.
