Should I make TS3 Standalone?
So should I make TS3 standalone, some ppl were telling me to do that, is that easier for everyone? Its only 20mb atm but standalone will be over 100mb. _________________ MODDB Profile: http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-second-tiberium-war Last edited by Aydra on Thu Jun 07, 2012 7:09 pm; edited 2 times in total QUICK_EDIT
yes make it standalone, even though it will be much bigger file thats really not a big problem compared too needing the entire game too play and its portable QUICK_EDIT
Would you share some info on how you want to go standalone? I was thinking of this as well but by sharing the whole free TS modded, would be over 1 GB. _________________ Free Tibed!

It should be over 1 GB if you keep the movies and the music, but if you delete that things and other things too, it gets smaller _________________ Inactive Projects >> Tiberian Sun: Tech Level War http://www.ppmsite.com/forum/index.php?f=843

TS3 doesnt work with campaigns, so i can remove those and the videos. That takes it down from 1.6gig to 276mb. Now if i compress it in a zip it comes to 186mb. There are probably some other things i can take out and shave that down even more. _________________ MODDB Profile: http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-second-tiberium-war QUICK_EDIT
You could get it much smaller I imagine... since you've replaced most of the units you can remove the original graphics. The thing to do would be (when ready) to repackage the entire game into TibSun and associated mixes, removing any redundant files along the way. QUICK_EDIT

If you are not really hacking the game executable yet, I don't see a reason to make it standalone, honestly. If people need the game, just linkit. Do not force everyone to download a huge file because some people do not have the game. QUICK_EDIT
What does someone do when downloading a non-standalone mod?
To unpack OfficialCnCTiberianSun.rar into a new folder and then unpacking the mod into that folder.
That new folder will weigh over 1 GB, that is too much.
If the mod is standalone the modder can delete all the stuff that the mod doesn't use.
Blah blah blah
What I'm trying to say, is that the non-standalone mod will use a lot more disk space. _________________ Inactive Projects >> Tiberian Sun: Tech Level War http://www.ppmsite.com/forum/index.php?f=843

He could provide both downloads so all get happy, someone just got to download what fits him better. No? QUICK_EDIT
I don't know exactly how a .exe functions or other registry programming stuff. So what I'am really wondering is why when I copy my game folder and place it somewhere else, it comes up with the "one or more .dll are missing". I already have the stripped version of TS with my mod and its ready to go. Why does it do this and how do I make my mod distribution ready? If someone could explain this to me in some detail I'd greatly appreciate it since im a noob in the area. _________________ MODDB Profile: http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-second-tiberium-war QUICK_EDIT
wish I could help you there...but i don't know. lol
however, i voted for making it a stand alone simply because i'd be more inclined to play it then as i'm usually too lazy to add in a mod manually and then remove it when I want normal TS and/or i'm just too lazy to add an additional Free TS just for a mod.
But...if you don't mind making it both ways then that's probably the better way to go about it. _________________ Kalistia Crestland (2)

again, you can start with UTS (Micro TS, created by Judeau, "Portable, no campaign, movies or music, just the engine and needed resources for skirmish and lan"), its only 71 MB..
That's an old version, iamn00b. I don't necessarily have time to access and upload the UTS download to the server right now, but I will soon. QUICK_EDIT
